Agilent Technologies Completes Acquisition of Velocity11, a Leader in Life Science Lab Automation and Robotics

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 20, 2007 — Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced it has completed the acquisition of Velocity11, a leader in automated liquid handling and laboratory robotics for the life science market. Financial details were not disclosed.

The acquisition of privately held Velocity11 enables Agilent to offer a more comprehensive suite of workflow solutions to its life science customers in the pharmaceutical, biotech and academic research markets. Specifically, Velocity11’s technology strengthens Agilent’s offering of automated sample-preparation solutions across a broad range of applications.

Soon after installation of their new HORIBA ABX Pentra DX 120 and DF 120 haematology analysers at Bronglais District General Hospital in Aberystwyth, the reliability of these high throughput analysers was highlighted. Following heavy snow falls in the large rural catchment area for this hospital, many blood samples taken at remote surgeries took up to five days to reach the laboratory. Despite such extended storage periods, automatic differentials were obtained on the new analysers which could not be achieved by manual ones, as the cells fragmented when spread on a slide for viewing. This saved many patients from having to have another sample taken and tested**.

E-WorkBook goes global with CDCO

Guildford, UK, 05 December 2007 – IDBS is pleased to announce that the Centre for Drug Candidate Optimisation (CDCO), Monash University, has licensed the E-WorkBook Suite to centralise their research data. This is the first sale of the E-WorkBook Suite in Australia.

As a collaborative research centre within the Victorian College of Pharmacy at Monash University, the CDCO sought an application for the capture of both chemical and biological data generated by physiochemical and ADME studies of novel drug candidates. Providing discipline-specific extensions for handling the different data types generated, the E-WorkBook Suite provides one integrated framework for research data management throughout an entire organisation.
