Agilent Technologies, BIA Separations GmbH Sign Agreement Giving Agilent Access to BIA Separations’ Bio-Monolithic Technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif., and KLAGENFURT, Austria, May 29, 2008 — Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and BIA Separations GmbH today announced the signing of an agreement that gives Agilent access to BIA Separations’ bio-monolithic technology. Agilent plans to commercialize analytical HPLC bio-monolith columns with strong and weak ion-exchange phases and a Protein A phase. BIA Separations currently provides their preparative scale CIM® disk and process scale CIM® tube bio-monolithic products for purification and bioconversion of bio-molecules.

Darent Valley meets growing haematology analysis demand in Kent

One year on HORIBA ABX ‘workhorse’ analysers efficiently handle high throughput needs

With increasing population growth in the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust area, covering Western Europe’s largest regeneration project - the Thames Gateway - it comes as little surprise that the haematology laboratory at Darent Valley Hospital has been experiencing annual workload increases of >5%. Requiring analysers that could cope with the high throughput of full blood counts managed by the department, Darent Valley has installed both ABX PENTRA DX 120 SPS and ABX PENTRA DF 120 SPS haematology platforms. Just one year following installation of the new analysers, the haematology laboratory is comfortably managing 800-900 blood counts a day.

Clone-Based Sequencing, Agilent Technologies’ CGH Microarrays Used to Discover Structural Variation of Eight Human Genomes

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 19, 2008 — A group of researchers has provided new insight into processes shaping the human genome. They used a clone-based method to build a comprehensive, fine-scale map of structural variation in eight human genomes from diverse geographic ancestry. Employing a variety of technologies for validation and characterization, including Agilent CGH microarrays, they identified 1,695 sites of structural change, half of which were seen in more than one individual. The work also detected 525 segments of novel sequence not found in the reference human genome sequence.

Edinburgh – 19th May 2008: Lab901 Ltd. today announced that it has signed a distribution deal with the Korean PCR diagnostics firm Seegene Inc.

Under the deal, Lab901 has appointed Seegene as its exclusive diagnostics distributor for the ScreenTape® system in the Korean market. The parties will also co-market their ScreenTape® and Seeplex® products in the global multiplex PCR diagnostics market.
